My current research focuses on Jewish immigrants who entered the United States through Galveston, Texas, in the early twentieth century. The Galveston Movement (1907-1914) attempted to redirect the flow of Jewish migration from Europe through Texas so it could more readily be distributed throughout the country.
I’m interested in learning more about the immigrants themselves, what happened to them after they arrived in “hinterland” communities, and about how they may have affected the communities they entered.
As I work, I’m compiling the Galveston Movement Immigrant Database, which allows users to search for data on each of the Galveston immigrants.
